Ingredients

For the Bread
  • 2 slices Artisanal Bread Choose for a robust flavor and structure; gluten-free options are also available.
For the Cheese
  • 4 oz Brie Cheese Provides creamy richness; feel free to substitute with goat cheese or mascarpone for a different taste.
For the Blackberry Mixture
  • 1 cup Blackberries They add tart sweetness; both fresh or frozen work great.
  • 2 tbsp Balsamic Vinegar Aged balsamic is preferred, but berry-infused vinegar can add a fruity twist.
For Cooking
  • 1 tbsp Butter Essential for grilling; consider olive oil or a dairy-free spread for a healthier alternative.

Equipment

  • non-stick skillet

Method

Preparation
  1. In a small saucepan, combine a handful of fresh blackberries with a splash of balsamic vinegar over medium heat. Stir gently and cook for about 5 minutes until the blackberries soften and the mixture thickens into a syrupy consistency.
  2. While the blackberry mixture cools slightly, take two slices of artisanal bread. Lay thin slices of creamy brie cheese on one slice, then generously spoon the balsamic blackberry mixture over the brie. Top with the second slice of bread.
  3. Place a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add a pat of butter. Allow it to melt fully, coating the bottom of the pan.
  4. Carefully transfer the assembled sandwich to the hot skillet. Grill for about 3-4 minutes on one side, or until the bread turns golden-brown and the brie begins to melt.
  5. Once the first side is golden, gently flip the sandwich over and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes, applying slight pressure to encourage even browning.
  6. Remove the sandwich from the skillet and let it rest for a minute before slicing in half. Optionally, garnish with extra blackberries or a drizzle of balsamic reduction.
