Custard Preparation
- Whisk together the egg yolks, granulated sugar, cornstarch, and salt in a medium saucepan until smooth and pale.
- Gradually incorporate the whole milk while whisking gently over medium heat.
- Cook on medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened (5 to 8 minutes).
- Remove from heat and stir in the lemon juice, lemon zest, and unsalted butter until smooth.
- Pour into individual dishes, cover with plastic wrap, and chill for at least 2 hours.
