  3. Gradually add half of the caster sugar and the cream of tartar to the egg whites, continuing to whisk until glossy.
  4. Add the remaining sugar and whip on medium-high until stiff peaks form (about 6-8 minutes).
  5. Check for smoothness; the meringue should be fluffy without graininess.
  6. Fit a piping bag with a star nozzle and pipe star-shaped mounds onto the prepared sheets.
  7. Sprinkle with red, green, and white decorations before baking.
  8. Bake for 1 hour, then turn off the oven and let cool inside overnight.
  9. Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
