Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup cream cheese softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 8 slices of bread white or whole wheat
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries hulled and sliced
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Additional powdered sugar for dusting

Method
 

  1. In a bowl, mix the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  2. Spread this mixture evenly on four slices of bread.
  3. Top each with sliced strawberries and cover with the remaining slices to create sandwiches.
  4. In a shallow dish, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. In another bowl, combine the milk, egg, and cinnamon.
  6. Dip each sandwich first into the flour mixture, then into the milk mixture, and finally coat with breadcrumbs.
  7. In a large skillet, heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil over medium heat.
  8. Once hot, carefully add the sandwiches, frying until golden brown on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  9. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  10. Dust with additional powdered sugar before serving.
