Step-by-Step Instructions for Maple Donut Bars
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon of baking powder, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, ½ teaspoon of salt, and ½ teaspoon of ground nutmeg. Set aside.
- In another bowl, beat together ½ cup of melted unsalted butter, 1 cup of granulated sugar, 2 large eggs, ¾ cup of buttermilk, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
- Gently pour the wet mixture into the bowl with the dry ingredients. Using a spatula, carefully mix until just combined.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let the bars cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- In a medium bowl, sift 2 cups of powdered sugar. Whisk with ¼ cup of pure maple syrup, 2 tablespoons of milk, 2 tablespoons of melted butter, ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until smooth.
- Once the Maple Donut Bars are completely cool, pour the glaze evenly over the top.
- Let the glaze set for at least 30 minutes to an hour before cutting into squares. Slice and serve.
