Method

Step-by-Step Instructions for Maple Donut Bars
  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon of baking powder, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, ½ teaspoon of salt, and ½ teaspoon of ground nutmeg. Set aside.
  2. In another bowl, beat together ½ cup of melted unsalted butter, 1 cup of granulated sugar, 2 large eggs, ¾ cup of buttermilk, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
  3. Gently pour the wet mixture into the bowl with the dry ingredients. Using a spatula, carefully mix until just combined.
  4. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Let the bars cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. In a medium bowl, sift 2 cups of powdered sugar. Whisk with ¼ cup of pure maple syrup, 2 tablespoons of milk, 2 tablespoons of melted butter, ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until smooth.
  8. Once the Maple Donut Bars are completely cool, pour the glaze evenly over the top.
  9. Let the glaze set for at least 30 minutes to an hour before cutting into squares. Slice and serve.
