- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal. 
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. 
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract. 
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. 
- Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using) until evenly distributed throughout the dough. 
- Spread the cookie dough evenly into the prepared baking pan. 
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. 
- Allow the bars to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. Cut into squares and serve.
