Step-by-Step Instructions for Samoa Rice Krispie Treats
  1. Toast the coconut in a large sauté pan for 5 to 7 minutes until golden brown. Set aside ½ cup for topping.
  2. Prepare the dulce de leche by microwaving it with a splash of milk for 1.5 minutes until smooth. Fold in remaining toasted coconut.
  3. Melt marshmallows and butter in a microwave-safe bowl for about 2 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds until fully melted.
  4. Combine melted marshmallows with Rice Krispie cereal, folding gently until coated.
  5. Layer half of the mixture into a greased 8x12-inch pan, then spread the dulce de leche on top, followed by the rest of the mixture.
  6. Melt semisweet chocolate and pour over the top layer, then sprinkle with reserved toasted coconut. Let set before slicing.
